Hong Kong March 13, 2006

Hong Kong is a Very different city from Taipei. It has its advantages and disadvantages. For example, it is FAR more ethnically diverse, which is a beautiful thing. The hostel I lived in had many Africans, mainly from Nigeria, and Indians. On the other hand, HK is FAR more expensive. Hong Kong had no scooters, but WAY more smokers. The MTR(subway) was slightly better in my opinion, based on little things like a closed rail and a lighting map system in each car.

I spent my first night dreadfully bored. I read all day long, then expected to find sth fun to do… no such luck. I played in an arcade. The 2nd day, I went to the Aroma walk and the Peak. The 3rd evening I went to Lan Kwai Fong, where Hong Kong becomes America… or Europe… basically bar land filled with Westerners. I spent my time photographing the local graffiti. The last day, I made a friend and went sight seeing. Pretty uneventful. All in all I feel like I spent 4 days reading and walking… I walked ALOT… up mountains…

Did you take a water ride on a junk? They go places you can’t go on foot and are expensive to see in any other fashion. Isn’t the approach into Hong Kong breathtaking? We have never flow into the new airport so I hope it has retained this fabulous feature of approaching Hong Kong
